Fort Fisher Visitor Center
Riggs Ward Design created 3,300 square feet of immersive permanent and changing exhibits for the new Visitor Center at Fort Fisher State Historic Site. The end result is a clear, engaging, and narrative-driven experience that invites visitors to explore the landmark’s layered history through atmospheric environments, interactive components, and firsthand accounts.
The new 19,916-square-foot Visitor Center replaces the original 1965 facility and reflects the site’s dramatic increase in visitation. RWD’s exhibit design supports the center’s contemporary mission by offering accessible interpretation that reveals Fort Fisher’s Civil War significance, its evolving role throughout United States history, and its enduring cultural impact.
By combining rich storytelling with thoughtful curation, the exhibits serve as a compelling entry point for audiences of all ages and backgrounds, deepening understanding of Fort Fisher’s lasting legacy while meeting the expectations of today’s museum visitors.
