Library of Congress New Visitor Experience
Riggs Ward Design has partnered with the Library of Congress on more than thirty projects, including the New Visitor Experience, transforming over 100,000 square feet of exhibition space. This initiative introduced new galleries and integrated state-of-the-art technology to enhance visitor engagement, accessibility, and the Library’s image as a modern, must-see destination.
RWD’s designs blend traditional and contemporary elements to create a cohesive visitor experience. Custom artifact and panel displays sit alongside interactive stations that allow guests to electronically record items of personal interest, while digital monitor collages provide dynamic storytelling opportunities. Every element, from orientation desks to signage to exhibition layouts, was carefully considered to connect the Library’s rich history with innovative design.
Key features include custom cases designed specifically for the Library by Michael Graves and strategically placed interactive media. Together, these elements create a balance of historical preservation and modern technology, supporting the Library’s goal of making its collections relevant, engaging, and accessible to a wide audience.
