Hampton Waterwalk

Hampton Waterwalk

RWD worked with Color Ad, Inc. to design functional, informative, and attractive signage for the Waterwalk at Central Park, a 2.25 linear park and trail that stretches through the heart of Hampton, Virginia. The city relies on the shared-use path as a safe transportation route for both pedestrians and cyclists, and enjoys it as a recreational amenity.

The RWD team developed a cohesive graphic identity for the trail, including a map of the overall park, that reflects the character and natural assets of the area. The project included four trailhead signs, eleven wayfinding signs, and fourteen interpretive displays, as well as assorted wayfinding markers. RWD’s designs incorporated the City logo and existing Waterwalk branding as appropriate. All signage is clear, concise, and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable codes and ordinances. Throughout the process, RWD considered the needs of park visitors, the signs’ future maintenance needs, and recommendations for lighting and alternate power sources.
