Currituck Maritime Museum

The Currituck Maritime Museum, nestled in Historic Corolla Park between the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Whalehead Boat House, tells the story of Currituck’s legendary boat builders. Surrounded by sound and ocean waters and interlaced with rivers and creeks, the county is defined by water. RWD’s designs perfectly capture the area’s breezy, nautical atmosphere, while incorporating practical educational elements.

Twelve historic boats are on show, complemented by modern and interactive displays. Visitors enjoy a leisurely self-guided experience, exploring the history of Currituck and engaging with the vessels that facilitated —and continue to facilitate— work, recreation, and transportation in the region.

This exhibit holds a mirror up to Currituck County. When exploring the artifacts, graphics, and interactive media, locals and tourists alike feel the integral nature of Currituck’s maritime past and present.
