Atlanta History Center
RWD designed Gatheround: Stories of Atlanta for the newly renovated Atlanta History Center. The exhibit is thematically organized, exploring the city’s history as told by individuals who make up a diverse cross-section of the city’s populace. Gatheround: Stories of Atlanta is divided into four themes: Politics and Justice, Family and Community, Urban Growth and Change, and Cultural Life, creating an inclusive environment for visitors to connect with history and share their stories. Hands-on activities, such as lifting a kettle like a washerwoman, bring the exhibit to life for all ages.
Motivated by the center’s spirit of inclusion, RWD developed a series of media interactives that inspire visitors to engage critically, intellectually, and emotionally with history. A “Share Your Story” recording booth provides a quiet place to reflect and respond to the exhibit, and invites visitors to leave a photo and message for future guests. Visitors can explore the stories told by others through the media wall, an impressive touchscreen hub of historical and contemporary pieces. Throughout the exhibit, digital kiosks expand upon exhibit content in approachable and fun ways, whether offering a “What Atlanta Neighborhood Are You?” quiz or a chance to see yourself become part of a historical photograph.
