Riggs Ward recently assisted the Library of Congress in developing a traveling exhibit designed to help introduce the Library’s mission and resources to new audiences throughout the United States. Scheduled to make about 100 presentations at locations across the nation, the Gateway to Knowledge exhibition fosters interest in the Library of Congress as both a tourist destination and a resource for research, exploration, and cultural enrichment. The traveling exhibition travels in an expandable semi-trailer truck. When fully extended, the trailer provides 700 square feet of exhibit space. Included are highlights from two of the Library’s most popular past exhibitions, American Treasures and World Treasures. Along with hundreds of artifacts represented in the displays, the exhibition also incorporates several audio-visual presentations of the Library’s curators discussing selected artifacts, computer stations with access to the Library’s web site, and a large-scale video created by the Library and the History Channel.
